Right you have seen the title and thought oh no not another of these
survivalist type sites...all army jackets and living off the land.
Well I have a surprise for you that is not what this site is about.....
Its about being prepared to survive in your own home no matter what and from a
British view point....that's why its called Prepare At Home
Being Prepared for what?...now that is the question........
Well anything really......from electricity going off to a hurricane
descending....okay, okay not many hurricanes in the UK.....but plenty of bad
weather......
Each year there are homes that are flooded, homes that go for days without
power, homes that are left without water for whatever reason .....
So if any of these things happened to you ...could you survive at home or would
it be a trip to your relatives or some time in a hotel......these might seem
like nice alternatives but not always feasible...work, kids schooling all make
it better if you stay at home.......
So are you prepared??????????
So who am I and why am I doing this............with a little help from my
friends!
I am an ordinary mum of 3 and a grandma...... I have never been in the army or
any of the services. I just have just always been the type who likes to be
prepared....you know going on a journey in winter in Scotland, so boot is full
of blankets, camping stoves, water, food, torches, shovels, hot water bottles,
radio etc. etc. My poor family just accepted that was me and took it all to
humour me.....
In the house I always like to keep a few months food and other goods just in
case.....and when my husband was unemployed for a while those stores made all
the difference to our lives.....it made the 'dole' money go further. So there is
a disaster that can happen to anyone...........
It made me think about others and how they would cope.....so I started asking
friends and it was amazing how many people say had enough of some things to last
a few weeks but others like milk, bread and vegetables only a few
days...definitely nothing for an emergency like long life milk(ok you may not
care for the taste but if no fresh milk is available I would rather use that
than drink black tea, how about you? No electricity for a couple of days....how
many candles and lanterns do you have?)
So that is the background to the why's of this website......
I admit I have gone further and learnt how to cope if we had to leave our home,
but not everyone needs to think of that...but I do feel everyone should be able
to survive for a time in their own home.........
So even if you only read this first page of the site you will learn quite a
lot...........
May you survive whatever life throws at you.......
